Fluus: Redesigning period pads to be flushable, biodegradable, and microplastics-free.
In the US alone, around 12 billion pads and 7 billion tampons are thrown out annually.
Current period products on the market are made of and wrapped in plastic, and often wrongfully flushed down toilets or piled up in landfills. This is no small problem, as a single menstruator will use up to 15,000 pads and tampons in a lifetime. Fluus™ is the world’s first certified flushable, microplastics-free, glue-free sanitary pad made of non-woven natural materials. This succeeds in cutting a user’s carbon footprint in half with a single flush.
Fluus™ pads create less waste, are easier to use and allow for more discretion, giving them the potential to be a true game changer for women and the planet.
Q & A with Fluus
- What motivated you to found your company?
We were frustrated to learn that biodegradable pads cannot truly biodegrade, as the way in which they are normally disposed of in bins does not allow for the correct conditions. We felt we had been lied to. We believe that it is the responsibility of companies to design a product that is high-performing and convenient to dispose of sustainably. That is why we developed our water-dispersible technology to remove permanent waste from your bathroom, starting with flushable pads.
- Why did you choose to partner with Valo?
From our first call with Valo, we saw a technology-driven investment team that was highly inspirational and had an incredible network. As first time founders, we wanted to have a strong lead investor who understood the importance of differentiated technology to drive market longevity as we develop and launch everyday essentials. The Valo team has been phenomenally supportive, and we are thrilled to be a part of the Valo family.
